Bitdefender Premium Security Review

Bitdefender Premium Security Review 2026

Bitdefender Premium Security is one of the best security suites. It has perfect anti-malware protection, no impact on the speed of your PC, and all the security features you need.

Buy it if you want complete protection for up to 10 devices. Unlike Bitdefender’s Total Security, Premium Security also includes the excellent password manager and unlimited VPN.

Alternatively, you could consider Norton 360 Deluxe. Although it only protects up to 5 devices, it includes the same features and costs less.

  • Malware protection: 100%. Bitdefender detected and removed each of the 1,200 malware samples in our test.
  • Speed impact: 100%. Bitdefender’s anti-malware engine is lightweight and did not slow down our test PC.
  • Features: 100%. Bitdefender Premium Security includes anti-malware, anti-phishing, a firewall, a password manager, and a VPN.
  • Price: 80%. Bitdefender Premium Security is excellent. However, several competitors, like Norton, offer similar protection at a lower price.

Thanks to the 30-day return policy, you can try it risk-free.

Full Review

Bitdefender is ranked #5 of the 28 best antivirus of 2026.

Bitdefender Premium Security offers top-tier internet protection at a great value. Its cloud-based scanner combines machine learning with traditional signature-based scanning for outstanding malware detection. The suite includes strong web protection, a fast VPN, robust system tune-up tools, a secure browser, and industry-leading parental controls.

Bitdefender offers free versions for Windows and Mac, along with various premium plans. Antivirus Plus covers up to 3 Windows PCs, while Internet Security adds parental controls for families. Total Security supports up to 5 devices across Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. Premium Security is the most comprehensive plan, including all features and an unlimited VPN. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Bitdefender Antivirus - Anti-Malware

Anti-malware

Bitdefender’s malware protection is among the best in the industry, combining massive signature databases with advanced machine learning to detect both known and emerging threats. Its cloud-based scanning ensures that system impact remains minimal, using only a small portion of CPU and RAM resources, even during full scans.

Users can perform five types of scans: Quick, System, Custom, Vulnerability, and Rescue Environment. These provide options ranging from targeted scans of running processes to deep system-wide malware sweeps and offline remediation. In testing, Bitdefender successfully identified and eliminated all 1,200 malware samples, including ransomware, trojans, worms, spyware, and keyloggers.

Full system scans completed in under one hour, matching competitors like Norton and Avira while maintaining smooth system performance. Even during intensive scanning, the system remained responsive, highlighting Bitdefender’s efficiency.

The real-time protection module, Bitdefender Shield, continuously monitors file activity and web traffic, blocking threats before they can execute. It offers deep customization for advanced users, allowing control over memory, script, and network scanning parameters.

Bitdefender Antivirus - Anti-Phishing

Anti-Phishing

Bitdefender’s anti-phishing module delivers near-perfect detection accuracy. It automatically cross-references visited URLs with a vast, continuously updated database of malicious and fraudulent websites, blocking access when a match is found.

In testing, Bitdefender outperformed Chrome, Firefox, and other leading antivirus programs by blocking every phishing attempt. Its intuitive notification system provides clear explanations for blocked pages and allows users to whitelist trusted sites with a single click.

The web protection engine also inspects search results, encrypted sites, and embedded links for hidden threats. This layered defense ensures users are protected against both traditional phishing attempts and advanced web-based attacks.

Overall, Bitdefender’s anti-phishing and web filtering tools offer exceptional protection with excellent usability. Customizable settings provide flexibility for both novice and expert users while maintaining the highest detection standards.

Bitdefender Antivirus - Firewall

Firewall

Bitdefender’s firewall provides robust network protection, monitoring both inbound and outbound traffic to prevent unauthorized access and malware propagation. It includes advanced options such as port scan defense, stealth mode, and passive detection, all of which function seamlessly out of the box.

During simulated attacks, the firewall successfully blocked unauthorized network activity and concealed service ports from external scanners. Its multi-mode system—Automatic, Allow, Block, and Alert—gives users full control over how applications connect to the internet.

Automatic mode is recommended for most users, intelligently balancing convenience and security. Advanced users can enable Alert mode to manually approve or deny new connections, though this can become repetitive during intensive use.

Compared with built-in Windows or macOS firewalls, Bitdefender’s solution delivers superior protection and configurability. It effectively shields against intrusion attempts and network-based malware while maintaining easy-to-understand settings.

Bitdefender Antivirus - Password Manager

Password manager

Bitdefender’s password manager, SecurePass, provides essential tools for securely storing and managing login credentials. It supports high-level encryption, password generation, and multi-device synchronization across browsers and mobile devices.

The tool allows users to auto-save and auto-fill login details, store payment and personal information, and assess password strength through the integrated Security Report. This feature identifies weak, reused, or outdated passwords, encouraging safer password practices.

While lacking a desktop application and some advanced capabilities like dark web monitoring, SecurePass offers reliable performance for everyday users. The browser extensions provide convenient access to the vault and password generator, though some functions redirect to the web interface.

Included in higher-tier plans or as an affordable add-on, SecurePass is a solid choice for users seeking a simple, dependable password manager within the Bitdefender ecosystem.

Bitdefender Antivirus - VPN

VPN

Bitdefender’s VPN, powered by Hotspot Shield, enhances user privacy with AES 256-bit encryption, a strict no-logs policy, and a built-in kill switch. The service offers secure browsing, torrenting, and streaming support across a wide range of devices.

While the free version is limited to 200 MB per day and a single automatic server, the premium upgrade removes these restrictions, granting access to over 4,000 servers worldwide. Premium users also enjoy support for the WireGuard protocol and a double-hop feature for added encryption.

Performance testing revealed excellent connection speeds with minimal latency, even when streaming high-definition content or transferring large files. It successfully unblocked platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer.

Overall, Bitdefender’s VPN performs comparably to standalone VPN solutions in speed and reliability, making it an excellent bonus feature within the suite’s premium plans.

Other security features

Bitdefender offers a comprehensive suite of additional security tools that extend far beyond standard antivirus protection. Its OneClick Optimizer enhances system performance by removing temporary and redundant files, freeing up valuable storage space.

The Safepay secure browser provides an isolated environment for financial transactions, integrating features like virtual keyboards, password protection, and screenshot blocking to prevent credential theft.

Parental Controls allow parents to set time limits, manage app permissions, and monitor device location, providing reliable protection for children’s online activities.

Profiles automatically optimize system performance for specific activities such as gaming, work, or media streaming, adjusting resources and notifications accordingly.

Anti-Theft tools for Windows and Android enable users to locate, lock, or wipe lost devices remotely. Meanwhile, the Identity Theft Protection service monitors up to 100 personal identifiers across credit bureaus and the dark web, offering up to $2 million in insurance coverage.

Additional utilities include a file shredder, ransomware remediation, webcam and microphone protection, anti-tracking tools, and spam filtering. Together, these enhancements make Bitdefender one of the most complete and capable security platforms available.

Test score comparison

We conduct in-house anti-malware tests and review the results from AV-Test, a German lab renowned for its objective evaluations. Below is the average of the last 10 AV-Test results for Windows. Their scoring criteria are:

  • Protection (1-6): Effectiveness in blocking malware.
  • Performance (1-6): Impact on system speed.
  • Usability (1-6): Frequency of errors like false alarms.

We calculate a final score using this formula:

Final Score = 60% Protection + 20% Performance + 20% Usability.

While these results influence our choice of the best antivirus for Windows 11, other factors like privacy and identity protection also play a key role. For a similar analysis for Android or macOS, visit our other comparisons:

Note: Brands not listed in the table either do not participate in AV-Test trials or are tested too infrequently, such as Surfshark Antivirus.

User reviews

We’ve compared the user reviews of all antivirus brands. We’ve used the scores and review count of TrustPilot, a leading user review platform.

We consider scores above 4.0 very good. Lower scores indicate that the brand might have a poor product or customer service. McAfee’s scores, for instance, are worrying.
